Burning Man 2018

This year I was on the fence about going to Burning Man for obvious having-a-one-year-old reasons, but the stars aligned and I decided I would go! Alice stayed with my parents and Martin for 9 days while I was gone. She did really well but that is a crazy long time to be away from your baby and it was tough. I’m glad I was able to go but not sure I could do it again any time soon!
I flew in to Reno and met my brother Robby and our friend Bryan from Ireland. They had our Uhaul and we drove straight to Black Rock City a couple of hours after I landed. We were met with white out conditions and a closed gate. So, we got out and socialized, as one does on Gate Road.

We camped with ICU again this year, where I worked shifts at the Barmacy and we were lucky enough to witness a few “beerthings.”

So, if you haven’t been to Burning Man, you probably want to know what happens at Burning Man. At least, people always ask me that. It’s tough to answer, but I can safely say that you stay busy. Between essentials like surviving (making food, keeping hydrated/moisturized, resting in the shade), looking for a friend in another camp, attending bachelorette parties, chasing down your favorite art car, joining a Bulgarian caravan, dancing, painting with light at night, climbing questionable structures, hunting down midnight soup services, helping to build/tear down things, talking to strangers, attending workshops, riding around aimlessly, the list goes on…you can find almost anything you need in Black Rock City, and if it’s not there, you can provide it.

So, yeah. We got lucky and had “mild” weather this year, and after the first day it wasn’t too dusty. Sadly we had to leave before the temple burn so I could be sure to make my flight. I’m bummed we missed it. It was a good week though. I’m hoping I’ll get to go again next year but we will have to see how things shake out! Thanks to the amazing people that made it a great burn! <3
